Kingdom Assignment Sudan
48% of children suffer from malnutrition

Birthing Program

In Southern Sudan 1 in 9 women will die during childbirth. For every woman who dies in childbirth, another 30 women incur injuries and infections - many of which are often painful, disabling, embarrassing and lifelong. Many of these women have never had medical advice or assistance throughout their pregnancies. Kingdom Assignment Sudan wants to change this statistic.

Our first health project in Malony is to give mothers and their children the best start at life from the very beginning of it. The project will involve

  • Training traditional birth attendants to teach and assist pregnant women
  • Distribution of birthing kits and showing women how to use them effectively
  • Education about neonatal and infant health
  • Providing a safe place for women to give birth under medical supervision.

In December 2008 1000 birthing kits will be taken to the Malony community where this project will be launched. We will begin training Birth Attendants and distributing these life saving kits.

To assist us KAS has become a partner organisation with the Birthing Kit Foundation who have together with the Zonta Team helped women in over 30 countries. To find out more go to
